Frankenstein

by Mary Shelley

designed by Hannah Campolo-Rich

I chose to investigate Frankenstein because the story explores internal struggle on both a personal level and through the broader lens of human consciousness as it moves between physical and metaphysical realms. I focused on three key themes: "ether" (representing the unseen/unknown), "anxiety," and "vulnerability." These themes highlight the complexity of character of both Frankenstein and the monster, pushing readers beyond the simplistic monster trope of otherness or disobedience. By using hand lettering, my cover design specifically explores the connection between the corporal and the mind in moments of vulnerability.
